Cash Supports Small Businesses, Local Communities and the Self Employed, Cards Only Support the Banks

We are moving ever closer to a cashless society and that is worrying for a number of reasons.

The First is the rising costs of taking card payments especially for small businesses and the self employed.

Secondly is the impact it will have on the local community.

Third is the impact a loss of internet or a power cut could have, imagine running out of petrol and not being able to fill up because the service stations internet has gone down or not being able to do your weekly shopping because of a power cut.

Finally and even more concerning are the implications of having every single one of your transactions recorded including what you buy and where you buy it from. Just how secure is your data and how long will it take the government to start using that data to track your every move.

But the implications of a cash-less society don’t just end there…

A Cashless Society will seriously affect small businesses and the self employed

The cost of buying a card reader and the transaction fees charged by the banks will have to be costed into every item, service or goods being provided, this will mean higher costs and less competitive prices, it will also bring to an end those little cash jobs on the side and giving workers a tip at the end of a job well done.

Community Events will Cease to Exist

No more local craft fairs, no more jumble sales, no more bingo nights in the village hall, no more carol singing collections, no more car boot sales and no more fundraising for local events.

No Cash will Seriously Impact Charities

A Cashless Society will have a major impact on charities like the Royal British Legion, whose annual “Poppy Appeal” collects cash donations via Poppy Appeal Collectors. Can you imagine every one of those collectors carrying a card machine to take a couple of quid for a poppy, not only would it cost a fortune in cash machines it would also reduce every donation by at least 1.9% which means our service veterans would lose thousands of pounds every year to merchant banks.

Having No Cash will even affect our young people

No more “Bob A Job” for the Scouts & Guides, no more taking a quid into School for “Non Uniform Days, no more school galas or kids craft fairs and no more sponsored walks. There will be no more “Pocket Money” no more “Piggy Banks” for the little ones, the “Tooth Fairy” will become a thing of the past and the five or ten quid in the kids Birthday or Christmas card will no longer be there to brighten their day.
